As part of our photographic themed month photographer Rod Shone is going to be talking about art and photography in a visual lecture entitled Life in Pictures.
Rod has been a professional photographer for over 35 years. He trained as a Graphic Designer at Colchester and St Martins Schools of Art. After studying he began assisting an advertising photographer and subsequently he set up his own London studio. Rod specialised initially in still-life photography working for advertising agencies, design groups and publishers. Over time he did more work photographing people and became known for his portrait work. He worked as an editorial photographer for many publications including the Observer, the Sunday Times and the Telegragh magazines.
Rod's commissioned work has taken him to the USA, Eastern Europe and Egypt and he has travelled with a camera and a sketch book to Cuba and Russia. He has exhibited widely in the UK (including at the Polish Cultural Institute and the Russian Embassy in London) and in Italy. He has worked as a visiting lecturer at Norwich School and Stoke on Trent Schools of Art.
Alongside his career Rod has always taken personal photographs and made drawings, some of which will be included in the talk.
